IBM PowerHA for IBM i, Clustering, and IASP Implementation

Currently no upcoming Class Dates

Description

Note: This course is a replacement for System i High Availability Clusters (HASM) and Independent Disk Pools (IASP) (AS540).

High Availability (HA) in an IBM i environment, known as PowerHA, is achieved with the implementation of an IBM i independent disk pool (Independent Auxiliary Storage Pool (IASP*) and IBM i 7.1 and 5771-HAS PowerHA for IBM i. After creating an IASP, data and applications are migrated from system disk space to the IASP. Once the IASPs have been created and used in a stand-alone environment, you will learn how to use IBM i clusters, geographic mirroring, and Copy Services to make the IASP highly available. Successfully implementing a continuously available environment requires knowledge of the application, data, and end-user requirements. Examine the considerations for a well-coordinated continuously available environment using IBM i clustering support. Learn about many of the concepts from a series of presentations and gain practical experience through hands-on lab exercises.

This course provides lectures and hands on labs in a face-to-face classroom setting. This course is also offered in a live virtual classroom environment (ILO - Instructor Led Online) with hands-on labs: IBM Power HA for i, Clustering, and Independent Disk Pools Implementation - ILO (OV541).

Objectives

  • Name the types of objects that can be placed in an IASP
  • Describe the methods used to access information in an IASP
  • Create an IASP
  • Use an IASP to support a variety of application functions
  • Manage a system with IASPs
  • Describe the different availability options using clusters and IASPs
  • Create a cluster
  • Make an IASP highly available with geographic mirroring
  • Practice switchover and failover operations
  • Explain the management considerations for systems in a cluster
  • Describe the use of Advanced Copy Services service offering with PowerHA

Audience

This is an intermediate technical course for systems programmers and administrators who are considering high availability options for their IBM i environment.

Prerequisites

You should have an understanding of the IBM i concepts in areas such as system security, application implementation, system operations, work management, and communications.
