Description

This course is being replaced by ES902. Learn to understand and set up advanced recovery techniques in the S/390 Complementary Metal-Oxide Semiconductor (CMOS) Parallel Sysplex environment. Experience various problems in a S/390 Parallel Sysplex via extensive hands-on labs and take the appropriate recovery actions to maintain high availability of the parallel sysplex. Hands-on lab projects may be done in teams depending on the number of attendees and location.

Objectives

  • Create Hardware Management Console (HMC) groups and load profiles
  • Enable HMC for remote Web browser access
  • Use Netscape Web browser to perform system activities via the intranet
  • Identify HMC problems
  • Initial Program Load (IPL) and remove system images
  • Perform recovery actions for IPL problems during system activation
  • Dynamically migrate from Global Resource Serialization (GRS) ring to GRS star configuration
  • Dynamically migrate JES2CKPT from Direct Access Storage Devices (DASD) to Coupling Facility (CF) structure
  • Activate Logout Recorder (LOGREC) and Operlog in a logstream on the CF
  • Identify System, Sysplex and CF status and connectivity using MVS commands
  • Perform System, Sysplex and CF recovery procedures with and without Sysplex Failure Manager (SFM) policies
  • Define, implement and test SFM polices for different recovery scenarios
  • Identify and Recover from Couple Data set failures, CF and CF structure failures
  • Recognize OS/390 system operator console problems
  • Format Configuration Data Set (CDS), define policies, start and verify they are working as desired
  • Identify policy change pending conditions and correct as necessary
  • Perform the steps necessary to properly remove a S/390 CF from the sysplex as in the case of required maintenance to a CF
  • Identify and correct problems during structure rebuild process such as insufficient storage in the CF
  • Add a new 9674 or 9672 CF to the sysplex dynamically using a sysplex wide dynamic activation with OS/390 Hardware Configuration Definition (HCD) facility
  • Dynamically manage RESET profile with HCD
  • Activate into Enhanced Catalog Sharing and identify sharing catalogs

Audience

OS/390 system programmers and OS/390 lead operators, who have responsibility for availability and recovery procedures for a S/390 Parallel Sysplex environment.

Prerequisites

You should complete:

  • Parallel Sysplex Operations and Recovery (H4057) or
  • S/390 Parallel Sysplex Planning and Implementation for z/OS and OS/390 (H3996) or
  • Parallel Sysplex Implementation Workshop (ES420)

or have broad knowledge and experience with the S/390 Parallel Sysplex environment.
