Microsoft Visio 2013 Advanced Essentials

This course aims to take those users who are familiar with the basic concepts of Microsoft Visio 2013 and boost their skills to the advanced level through the study of these 12 modules.
Students will cover a wide range of features that are a part of Visio 2013 to help them get the most out of it. This training package covers: Doing More with Shapes, Working with Containers, Adding Callouts, Using Layers, Linking Data to Shapes, Using Data Graphics, Creating Process Diagrams, Creating Cross-Functional Flowcharts, Creating Organization Charts, Doing More with Organization Charts, Creating Workflow Diagrams, and Creating Gantt Charts.

Doing More with Shapes
This module takes a look at shapes and how to use them even more effectively. Included here are how to use Paste Special, how to insert a field, add ScreenTips, and add hyperlinks.

Working with Containers
Containers in Visio 2013 allow a user to add visual boundaries around select shapes and then label these same boundaries in an according fashion. In this module learners are lead through the ins and outs of manipulating containers and topics include: adding a container, adding shapes to, and removing shapes from, a container, changing container style, resizing the container, and disbanding the container.

Adding Callouts
Callouts are similar in appearance to thought balloons in comics and are used in Visio 2013 to add annotations to shapes in a drawing that has been created. This module looks at inserting and moving callouts, changing the position of a callout line, resizing and callout and changing its style.

Using Layers
Just like an onion, a drawing in Visio 2013 is made up of layers. These layers are used to organize related shapes on a drawing. Here students learn how to add a layer then show or hide a layer, how to activate a layer, how to color a layer and lock it, and how to preserve group member layers.

Linking Data to Shapes
Shapes in Visio 2013 can have data associated with them and this function can be looked at from several aspects. This module looks at how to manually add data with the Shape Data Window and how to manually link shape data. It also covers how to automatically link shapes to data, how to refresh the data source, and how to remove data links.

Using Data Graphics
Data graphics are used to display information about a shape and they are generally inserted in a Visio 2013 file automatically when a user links a shape to external data. This module teaches how to insert data graphics, how to create custom data graphics, edit graphics, and remove graphics.

Creating Process Diagrams
Process diagrams are graphical representations of a how step-by-step process is carried out. Arrows are usually used to express directional flow between shapes. In this module, users are taken through a look at creating a process diagram, adding shapes, creating new sub-processes, linking sup-processes, editing sub-processes, and checking the diagram for errors.

Creating Cross-Functional Flowcharts
Cross-functional flowcharts act to show relationships between a process and the organizational or functional units. Here learners are taken through how to create a cross-functional flowchart, how to add swimlanes and separators and shapes, how to change diagram orientation and direction, how to modify swimlane margins, and how to choose a flowchart style.

Creating Organization Charts
Organization charts can be used to show how an organization functions and the reporting hierarchy within. This module shows how to create an organization chart manually, how to create one with the wizard, how to add shapes and images, and how to change the shape style.

Doing More with Organization Charts
A further look at organization charts is taken here. This module takes users through how to: modify the layout, change the spacing, modify the position, create and use a synchronized copy, and how to compare charts.

Creating Workflow Diagrams
A workflow diagram is used as a visual representation of the series of steps in the creation or management of a project. This module looks at creating a workflow diagram, adding shapes, importing SharePoint workflows, exporting workflows to SharePoint, and creating stage outlines.

Creating Gantt Charts
A Gantt chart is a bar chart which is used to show the schedule of a project and to track its progression. In this final module, topics covered are: creating a Gantt chart, entering tasks, dates, and duration, adding rows and columns, and configuring work time.
